Siamese twin Sonya is dead
Sonya Bain, the more seriously ill of Siamese twins separated this week after delicate surgery, in America, died.
Her twin, Tonya, remains in a critical condition. Doctors had given Sonya almost no chance to survive both before and after the five-hour separation operation. Dr. Howard Filston, one of four senior surgeons who performed the operation, said in a statement that Sonya "died as a result of persistent heart failure which had been progressive through the night."
Yugoslavia's title
Yugoslavia regained the World Amateur Basketball Championship by beating the defending champions Soviet Union 82-81 in a breathtaking final game.
After the score had been tied at 77-all midway through extra time Dalipagic, adjudged the 14-nation tournament's most valuable player, hit on a Jump shot and then, after
drawing a foul off Russia's Ivan Edesliko, sank one of his two free throws to put Yugosiavia up 82-77.
