Gunman raid consulate POLICE were still hunting six masked gunmen who attacked an Iraqi consulate in Iran. An Iranian guard was killed.

The raid, in the port of Khorramshahr, was believed to a reprisal for alleged Iraqi restrictions against the Shah's chief political opponent. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeiny, the figurehead of the AANTI/Shah opposition movement, lived in exile at the holy town of Najaf in Iraq until he moved to Paris last week. The reports of restrictions provoked a wave of demonstrations in Iranian provincial towns in which at least a dozen people were killed.
West Bank ‘no bar to peace’ DISAGREEMENT between the United States and Israel over the West Bank should not block peace negotiations, President Carter said.
The U.S. maintained that Jewish settlements in occupied territories were illegal and an obstacle to peace. But the one issue, even if it was not resolved quickly, would not prevent a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, he said. He told a press conference that he did not believe Egypt's President Sadat would "let any single element of a West Bank-Gaza Strip settlement affect a peace treaty."
Battle against cholera goes on HEALTH officials have reaffirmed the UAE is cholera-free following the recent outbreak in Saudi Arabia.
But, the Health Ministry is continuing to take anti-cholera measures. This includes adding more chlorine to tap water, a spokesman said. Checks are also being made at airports and sea-ports on vaccination certificates.
