Crack down on beggars
An all-out campaign to rid Dubai of beggars is being carried out by police, and the public have been asked to help.
Throughout the city beggars have been appearing in increasing numbers and are now becoming not only an embarrassment but also a traffic hazard. Many of them - notably women and young children - are no longer confining themselves to the pavements but are finding it more lucrative to knock on the windows of cars waiting at traffic lights. Ever since begging was made illegal in the UAE the police have arrested any beggars they have seen.

World ban on Best
Dr. Helmut Kaeser, general secretary of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), said the world body would honour a request from the English F.A. and ban soccer star George Best from playing anywhere in the world.
"I can't say exactly when FIFA will announce the ban, but it should be by the end of this week," Kaeser said by telephone from FIFA headquarters. He said the ban would be for "breach of contract" with English Second Division club Fulham, with which Best is registered as a player.
