Video pirates are flouting UAE laws

Pirate video-cassette producers are flouting the strict censorship laws of the United Arab Emirates. And many people involved in the legitimate side of the video business believe the means the pirates employ to obtain films and TV programmes are not only unethical but also illegal.

An underground network with two bases, the USA and the UK, are paying no attention to copyright laws and stealing copies of films, documentaries and television series, the Gulf News has discovered.

No signs of a lasting peace

Summit talks between the Syrian and Lebanese Presidents entered their fourth day today with no sign of a comprehensive political solution to turn the latest Syrian-rightist ceasefire into a lasting peace.

The state-run Beirut radio reported that a fourth round of talks in Damascus between President Elias Sarkis of Lebanon and President Hafez Al-Assad had continued past midnight.

Gilles makes race history in Montreal

Gilles Villenueve scored a fairytale triumph in Montreal yesterday gaining the first ever Formula One victory by a Canadian driver in his country's own Grand Prix.

Before a delighted crowd, Villeneuve crossed the finishing line in his Ferrari far ahead of Jody Scheckter of South Africa, with his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Reutemann of Argentina, in third place.
