Four major exhibitions for Dubai

In the next seven months four major exhibitions are scheduled to be held in the Dubai International Trade Centre. Nine more international conferences and exhibitions are in the works for next year, which will make Dubai one of the busiest trade and exhibition centres in the Middle East. Guy Guillemard, Manager of the Trade Centre said, the objective is to build a strong exhibition base for the Trade Centre to reinforce it as an international business centre.

World leaders bless fifth UNCTAD rally

Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu has called on all nations to cut their arms expenditures by 10 to 15 per cent, with half the savings to go in assisting developing countries. His proposal came in one of the several messages read from Heads of Government at the opening of the fifth United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

PLO vow to defy Begin

Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) defied Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and vowed to continue guerrilla raids inside the Jewish state. Begin told the Israeli parliament, Israeli forces would strike Palestinian guerrillas, based in Lebanon until they were completely destroyed.

Egypt suspended from APU

The membership of Egypt was suspended by the Arab Postal Union. The centre would also be shifted from Cairo, according to a decision taken by the Executive Council of the Union meeting in Doha.

Mighty Mac scores his biggest triumph

John McEnroe, a 20-year-old American, scored the biggest triumph of his career by winning the World Championship of Tennis (WCT) title with a four-set victory over Bjorn Borg of Sweden, the world's top-ranked player.
