Coming of age with Gulf News
I've been a Gulf News reader ever since I started to read. I've grown up with it. I love reading the contributions to Off the Cuff, published in the Opinion section. My favourites are those by Jerry Zezima, Kevin Martin, Gautam Raja and staff writers Vanaja Rao, Joseph Marques and Mahmood Saberi. Thank you Gulf News for cheering me up every day, after a hard day at school or a stressful hour at home. A happy 30th anniversary to my favourite newspaper!

A good journey
Gulf News has had an eventful 30 years. Gulf News has been a success with a difference. As Shiv Khera wrote in his book, "winners don't do different things, they do things differently". This holds true for Gulf News. Value-based journalism is the need of the hour. I wish Gulf News a long journey that will help cast the spotlight on the downtrodden and the exploited.

Life and times
Gulf News played a great role in my life. I came to Dubai in 1981. I was staying in Jumeirah with my brother-in-law. One day when I was browsing another newspaper in search of jobs, a guest advised me to check Gulf News. This was my introduction to the newspaper. Soon after, I joined an American company. In 1986 we started subscribing to Gulf News at the behest of my father-in-law.

On October 30, 1986, the photo of my three-year-old younger son was published in Junior News. Once, my two sons and I won prizes in raffle draws with Gulf News.

By 1989, both my sons were very fond of participating in different competitions offered by Junior News and both of them won many prizes.

June 4, 1993, was a proud day for us when my elder son's photo appeared as the top scorer at his school for the CBSE examination. In 1997, my younger son won a gift voucher of Dh500 and a certificate in a Gulf News photo competition.

Times have changed, Gulf News has changed and we have also changed. However, we are still as attached to the newspaper, savouring old days in the form of saved newspaper cuttings, certificates and photos.

Time capsule
Back in 1986, Gulf News buried a time capsule with a copy of Gulf News in it, along with some artefacts and a few other things, which I fail to recollect. That was something very interesting that the newspaper came up with.

I miss it
I have lived in the GCC countries for the past 16 years, of which eight years were spent in the UAE. After moving to Canada, the one thing I am not ready to adjust to is the morning newspapers - I miss my beloved Gulf News.

A complete paper
I have been reading Gulf News for over a decade now, and I need to mention that the Classified section happens to be the best, very diverse and well documented. Reporting is also excellent, and the recent changes in the typesetting and overall makeover have further enhanced the image of the newspaper. Gulf News has come a long way. Excellent job. Keep it up.

Being the best
Gulf News has become a young person of 30 now. I hope that the newspaper grows in strength, especially in portraying the lives of people in the Gulf countries and from around the world, as best as it can.

Quality offering
I have been in the UAE for almost six months. Gulf News has provided me with good news coverage. The quality of the paper used is very good. The magazines with the newspaper provide good tips on health and food.

Learning English
My parents have been living in the UAE for the past 31 years; Gulf News has certainly played an essential role in their lives. I was first introduced to this fine newspaper when I was five years old. My father wanted me to improve my English by reading the articles in it and knowing what was going on around me. For many years, I would relax after school by reading the newspaper.

Now that I am away, I'm still able to do that by browsing through the Gulf News website.

Offering solutions
Gulf News has been a solution provider to me more than a source of local or international news. I bought my car through the Classifieds. I rented quite a few of the places I stayed in through Gulf News. I came to know about the jobs I did through Gulf News. I tell my friends Gulf News is a source for solutions more than anything else.

Changed my outlook
I am deeply influenced by Friday magazine, especially its etiquette and career columns. It did change my outlook a lot. I will always prefer Gulf News to other newspapers.
