I-mate, the Dubai-based specialists in Microsoft Windows Mobile device, will seek a listing on the Dubai Financial Market in a year's time following its initial public offering on Friday in London, its chief executive officer said yesterday. Jim Morrison told Gulf News: "We have had a successful float on the Alternate Investment Market (AIM) on Friday with very good response and we intend to seek dual listing in Dubai in a year or so depending on the circumstances." I-mate, formerly known as Carrier Devices M.E., has floated 20 per cent of its £300 million on the United Kingdom's Alternate Investment Market on Friday. The initial public offering (IPO), according to Morrison, could be over-subscribed. The company did not float IPO in Dubai due to the strict rule of offloading a minimum of 55 per cent shares in the market. "Had the government relaxed the rules, or had the DIFX been active earlier, we would have had the flotation in Dubai, rather than on the AIM," Morrison said on why his company avoided a listing here where investors queue for shares and IPOs are oversubscribed in bulk. JPMorgan Cazenove is acting as the sole nominated adviser and broker to the company. I-mate achieved total sales of $136 million and profits before tax of $14.4 million during its financial year ended March 31. This represents a 259 per cent growth in revenue year on year compared to the year ended March 31, 2004. Established in 2001 at Dubai Internet City, the company has a presence in more than 20 countries. I-mate is a developer and supplier of high-end wireless integrated Pocket PCs and Smartphones, specialising in the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. These devices are sold under the I-mate brand, supported by related content and services. I-mate yesterday unveiled its 1-View solution marking its debut into the global software industry. The company also showcased its extended product range of next generation mobile devices and I-mate's value-added offering. Asghar Khan/Gulf News Jim Morrison, CEO of I-mate, says the company would have had the flotation in Dubai rather than on the AIM if rules were relaxed or had the DIFX been active earlier. | |
