Royal Javanese Ritual
Cleopatra's Spa travels south of the equator to the Spice Islands of the Dutch East Indies and Bali for the traditional Royal Javanese Ritual. Originating from the palaces of Java, this treatment was patronised by the royalty and was performed before a wedding. It begins with a traditional
hour-long Balinese massage. A sprinkling of Lulur, a mixture of ground rice, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon, is then applied to the body to exfoliate. This is topped up by fresh yoghurt lightly rubbed over the body. A decadent bronze bath filled with jasmine oil and rose petals is the parting shot.
