Director Ganesh Acharya will be hoping Govinda, whose last two films Partner and Bhagam Bhag were hits, proves to be third-time lucky.
Multi-starrer comedies are definitely in vogue. After Krazzy 4 and De Taali, the latest mad caper coming your way is Ganesh Acharya's Money Hai To Honey Hai, which stars Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitley, Hansika Motwani, Manoj Bajpai and Ravi Kissan. This is Acharya's second directorial venture after his critically-acclaimed Swami. But this time, Acharya has taken the big leap – from offbeat to commercial.
Ace choreographer's dream
Acharya is the portly but super-flexible choreographer who bagged the Best Choreographer awards at all the award ceremonies in 2006 for the rustic dance track Beedi Jalayle. He fulfilled his ambition to direct a film by making the intense drama Swami, which starred Manoj Bajpai.
And now, with Money Hai To Honey Hai, he is hoping to capture a larger audience. "I am proud of Swami. Though it didn't do well, people within the industry appreciated my work. This gave me the confidence I needed to attempt another film.
This one was a bigger project. I think comedy is a genre that audiences always appreciate. When I pitched the idea to Kumar Mangat (producer), he agreed immediately. And with Govinda in the lead, it was very easy to start this film," Acharya explains.
Acharya has worked with the actor on a number of occasions and is responsible for the comedic dance moves Govinda is famous for. Acharya says, "I think Govinda is one of India's best dancers and he is a total livewire onscreen. He comes up with the most amazing facial expressions. No other actor can match his comic timing. I am grateful that he agreed to act in this film. In it, he proves why he is one of the best in the business."
Comic skills
Govinda made a successful comeback with Bhagam Bhag and Partner. When asked what he had to say about his latest film, he replied, "I totally agree with the film's title. If you have the money, you will get the honey. It is a comic film and is a wholesale entertainer."
Supporting Govinda is Shivdasani, who is also known for his comic skills. His last film De Taali may not have set fire at the box office, but he seems to be more confident in the company of the seasoned comic actor. Bajpai, on the other hand, is the odd one out. He has never acted in a totally commercial Bollywood comic flick. But Acharya has complete faith in him.
Glam quotient
Jaitley and Motwani will battle it out for the maximum share of eyeballs. Motwani has got a slight edge over Jaitley as she is pitted opposite Govinda, which gives her a sort of lead heroine's title. Jaitely is paired opposite Shivdasani.
Esha Deol will also be seen shaking her booty in a song opposite Govinda. Besides the two women, Upen Patel will be adding to the glamour quotient of the film.
