Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received here on Friday Emilio Fernandez-Castano, Commissioner-General of Zaragoza International Expo (expo Zaragoza 2008).

During the meeting, which was attended by Spanish Ambassador Manuel Pineiro, Nahyan and Castano reviewed preparations for the event which will be held next month.

The UAE will take part in Expo Zaragoza 2008, along with 104 countries.

The 2008 expo will be held in Spanish city of Zaragoza, with the topic of 'Water and sustainable development'. The event is being placed in a meander of the river Ebro.

"I am here to offer thanks to the UAE government for putting together a very impressive national pavilion at Expo Zaragoza. We are very pleased that the UAE is taking part in this major event to showcase its efforts and achievements in water conservation, environment protection and alternative energy," Castano said.

Eye opener

Castano, who is visiting the UAE under invitation by the National Media Council, said UAE's participation in the expo to demonstrate its pioneering experiment in renewable energy and green cities will be an eye opener for the rest of the world and also an opportunity to intensify economic and cultural cooperation between the UAE and Spain.

"We are confident that UAE's participation will add a great value to the event, given that the country attaches a great importance to development of water resources," he added.
