New Delhi: After his arrest and subsequent detention for 50 days, all the while being subjected to a media trial, Noida dentist Rajesh Talwar was on Friday finally cleared of the murders of his teenaged daughter Aarushi and the family's domestic help Hemraj.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) admitted it had no evidence to suggest Talwar was linked to the double murder. He is to be freed today after the release papers arrived too late for the formalities to be completed on Friday.

The CBI now believes Krishna, an assistant at Talwar's clinic, and two other domestic helps, Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal - who lived in the neighbourhood - carried out the murders.

Talwar was arrested on May 23 as the prime suspect in the case after Aarushi's body had been found in her parents' upscale Jalvayu Vihar neighbourhood in suburban Noida on May 16.

The CBI took over the case on June 1 after a public outcry over the slipshod manner in which the Noida police had conducted the investigations.

"We have not found any evidence against him so far," Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Joint Director Arun Kumar told reporters at a packed press conference.

Soon after, the CBI moved an application in a special court in Ghaziabad seeking Talwar's discharge.

The court ordered that the dentist be released on a personal bond and two sureties of Rs500,000 (Dh42,535) each. Talwar's brother Dinesh and close friend Arun Mittal completed the formalities.
