Islamabad: Pakistan's lawyers continued their “Long March” on Tuesday joined by deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Hundred of lawyers took to the streets chanting anti-Musharraf slogans and burning effigies of the nation’s president, to protest Chaudhry’s removal last November.
Chaudhry will travel through Lahore to the central city of Multan where the convoy is convening before heading to the capital Islamabad, where they are expected to stage a large rally on Thursday.
Lawyers in Karachi also staged similar protests, chanting slogans and calling for Musharraf’s impeachment.
The series of protests, a clear display of opposition to Musharraf, are an attempt to pressurize the recently elected Parliament to reinstate Chaudhry and other judges.
The rallies will test Pakistan’s coalition government which has since differed on how to restore the judges.
Supporters of former Prime Minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif also joined in the protests.
Musharraf dismissed Chaudhry and other judges from their positions in court when he imposed emergency rule last November.
