Dubai: A leading UAE-based property developer has started using jute bags in a bid to help save the environment.
ETA Star Properties, which recently launched its first green project in Dubai Maritime City, has also converted all of its marketing material to recyclable paper.
Construction is expected to start next month on the Verde Residence and Office Towers with a completion date scheduled for 2011.
The building aims to achieve a gold rating from the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Programme.
Shyam Sunder, General Marketing Manager for ETA Star Properties, told Gulf News it was time for the company to "walk the talk" after deciding to go green.
He said: "Our customers feel really good about themselves after buying a green property because they have made a conscious decision to help save the environment."
"But we have to contribute as a company and we have taken several steps towards internalising the green concept. We have encouraged our sales office to e-mail PDF brochures instead of sending hard copies and we are using many other different ways of giving information without using paper.
Gulf News spoke to several customers as part of its own Go Green campaign about why they had decided to invest a green property.
Mashook Syed, executive director for Dubai Lifestyle City, said: "My wife and I are really impressed by the green concept. Conservation of power and energy is a hot topic at the moment and I feel everyone should play their part in saving the environment."
Santhosh Gowda, managing director for a real estate company, purchased a three-bedroom apartment in Dubai Maritime City because he wants to play an active role in saving the environment.
He said: "I am excited about the prospect of green living. Verde Towers is located right next to the sea and it aims to cut power usage by 30 per cent, which in turn will lead to less pollution."
