Seoul: North Korea is pleased with negotiations with the United States over food aid to help the communist state deal with increasing shortages, North Korean officials said on Thursday.
A US negotiation team wrapped up four day talks in the country this week, North Korea’s official news agency said, adding that both sides had “in-depth and good negotiations”.
The US State Department said the food delegation would discuss with Pyongyang how to guarantee that US food can be distributed to the North Koreans who need it most.
Washington believes humanitarian aid is a completely separate issue from the ongoing conflict involving North Korea’s nuclear programme.
The food situation in North Korea has worsened this year after a devastating flood swept the country last summer and South Korea's new conservative government stopped sending aid.
