Dubai: Residents at International City in Al Warsan currently have to depend on one multi-specialty medical centre for their healthcare needs, although another clinic is set to open in three months.
The Al Rashidiya primary healthcare centre (PHC), run by the Department of Health and Medical Services (Dohms), is located within 10 kilometres of Al Warsan.
International City residents will also be able to access another multi-specialty clinic, by Welcare World Systems, in Mirdiff. The clinic is slotted to open in June.
There are no hospitals within the vicinity. The closest hospital is the Welcare Hospital in Garhoud.
Dr Ebtihal Darwish, medical director of PHC at Dohms, told Gulf News healthcare facilities in the area were enough to support the current population.
She said there were no plans to open a PHC in the area within three years, adding Dohms might decide to open one in the future, depending on need.
Dohms healthcare plan requires one primary healthcare centre per 30,000 people. According to Dohms statistics, there are 845 people close to the Rashidiya PHC, not counting International City residents.
Services available at the centre include dental care, paediatric care and women's health. Operating hours are from 7.15 am to 10 pm, Saturday to Thursday, although days and timings for each service vary.
Although there are no hospitals nearby, Dr Ebtihal said it did not mean residents had no options.
"In case of emergencies, residents can call 999 and ambulances will be there," she said.
