London: After a disastrous start to Heathrow’s Terminal 5, British Airways hopes to operate on a full flight schedule on Saturday, it said on Thursday.
Hundreds of flights have been cancelled since the terminal opened on March 27 because of overloaded baggage controls that led to an enormous backlog of bags.
BA, the only airline operating in Terminal 5, was confident it could operate at full capacity on Saturday.
On Thursday, 32 more flights were cancelled, bringing to 431 the total number of scrapped flights.
British Airways, the terminal's sole occupant, said it was confident it could operate all planned flights into and out of Heathrow on Saturday. 28,000 bags have been separated from passengers after flights departed with no baggage on board.
Ten per cent of the luggage has been sent to Milan to ease the chaos as well.
BA chief executive Willie Walsh has apologised profusely for the problems, while the British Chambers of Commerce has called Terminal 5's opening "a public relations disaster."
