Dubai: Police have launched a campaign to crack down on unregistered motorbikes, bicycles and quad bikes being ridden on main roads.
The campaign comes upon the instructions of Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, Acting Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said the instructions aimed to provide safety for all road users and reduce traffic accidents and damage caused by reckless motorcyclists.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Mazroui said the traffic police would crack down in particular on those who ride motorbikes on pavements and in the opposite direction of the road.
He said the traffic department had prepared a plan for the traffic campaign, as those who ride such motorbikes are careless toward the lives of other road users and that they also endanger their own lives.

"The traffic department has formed traffic control teams on various internal roads and highways. The teams will be present round-the-clock to crack down on violators. The teams consist of patrols and motorbikes," Lieutenant Colonel Al Mazroui said.
He said traffic control teams in Deira and Bur Dubai will monitor the roads day and night looking for violators.
Offending motorbikes caught on main roads, internal roads or residential areas will be seized, especially those that are unregistered and do not have number plates.
He said those who ride such motorbikes deliberately offend the law, as the motorbikes are unregistered. He said this behaviour is uncivilised and it will not be tolerated.
