Tehran: Iran on Sunday criticised the United States ahead of US President George W. Bush’s visit, saying the trip is merely to “compensate America’s failed policies” in the region.
Iran also accused the United States of interfering in the Middle East, after Bush said he would urge allies to help in “countering the aggressive ambitions of Iran”.
The United States accuses Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons, a charge that Iran denies. Bush said Iran remained a threat because it failed to halt uranium enrichment.
Bush is due in Israel on Wednesday and will also visit the West Bank, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt as part of his push for Middle East peace.
"The purpose of these repeated trips is to compensate America's failed policies in the region," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini.
Hosseini also said US policies are in Israel’s favour and that America has failed to isolate Iran, which he says has “no plans for normalisation of relations with America”.
"They (US) have never been successful (in isolating Iran). Regional countries have ignored their propaganda and are strengthening their ties with Iran," he said.
Hosseini also echoed earlier comments by the country's supreme leader saying that Iran has no immediate plans to normalize relations with the United States.
