Dubai: Private sector employees will get a one-day holiday on December 2, to mark the country's National Day, a circular announced on Sunday. Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour, said December 2 would be an official holiday to observe the UAE's 36th National Day anniversary.

Expat workers: Call to improve health system

Abu Dhabi: The Ministerial Council for Services on Sunday called for improving the overall system and procedures for health examination of expatriate workers to ensure error-free results. Every expatriate worker in UAE should undergo medical checkups to determine if he or she is free from certain contagious diseases.

Governance: Work on electronic complaint system

Dubai: Six government departments in Dubai  on Sunday started implementing the first phase of the unified electronic complaint system. The system, which will be implemented in two stages and adopted by all government departments in Dubai by the end of the year, was approved by the Dubai Executive Council in February.

Amnesty: Charity provided 500 airline tickets

Abu Dhabi: The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has provided 500 airline tickets for illegal workers who sought amnesty but could not afford to buy tickets to leave the country. Mohammad Habroush Al Rumaithi, Deputy Secretary General of RCA for Local Affairs, said the Authority was providing the tickets in cooperation with official authorities in their efforts to preserve security and stability in the country and facilitate the return of those workers to their countries. A total of 376 families from various nationalities benefited from the tickets, which were provided in October and November.

Complaint: Unlicensed factory closed down

Sharjah: An unlicensed meat-processing factory has been shut down by Sharjah Municipality after a citizen called Sharjah Radio to complain against it. Dr Salah Taher Al Haj, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, said the civic body responded immediately to the complaint and confiscated the contents of the factory before shutting it down. The municipality has honoured the woman who called the radio station.
