Riyadh: The Saudi agriculture ministry has imposed a temporary ban on the import of live chicken and chicken products from Canada due to reports of bird flu there.
The Saudi press agency said the ban follows reports from World Organization for Animal Health that confirmed reports of bird flu in the Regina province of Canada.
The highly pathogenic strain of bird flu killed some animals on a poultry farm in the Regina Beach area, north of Regina, in late September, and led to the culling and burial of all remaining birds on the farm during the past month.
The Saudi Arabian decision comes close on the heels of a ban by Ukraine on Canadian poultry imports.
