Mumbai: A court in western India granted movie star Aamir Khan's father custody of the actor's mentally ill brother yesterday after the younger Khan refused to live with his famous sibling.

One of India's most successful actors, Aamir Khan had been accused by his younger brother Faisal of illegally confining and forcibly medicating him at his residence last year.

A Mumbai court granted Tahir Hussain Khan, Aamir's father, custody of his Faisal for a month.

The court ordered Faisal to report to a police station every alternate day about his health.

The court rejected a petition by the actor to be granted custody of his brother.

Aamir Khan had filed a missing person's report after his brother Faisal, 41, went missing on September 29.

Faisal Khan was tracked down by police earlier this month and placed in a downtown hospital where he was diagnosed as suffering from "schizoaffective psychosis", which is a mixture of schizophrenia and manic depression.
