Washington: Israel shared intelligence with US President George W. Bush before it decided to strike on neighbouring Syria, the Washington Post reported on Friday.

Citing US government sources, the Post said that Israel stoked White House fears by indicating that Syria was getting help from North Korea on a nuclear facility.

Syria and North Korea have both denied reports of nuclear cooperation.

Ultimately, the United States is believed to have given Israel some corroboration of the original intelligence before the air raid on September 6, the Post said, citing the sources.

The Post quoted its sources as saying that Israel hit the Syrian facility in the dead of night to minimize possible casualties.

Bush on Thursday refused to answer questions about reports that Israel conducted air strikes in Syria. Israel has also refused to comment about the reported raid.
