Dubai: Annual inflation in Oman accelerated to 5.98 per cent in the year to July, up from 5.57 per cent in June, as food costs and rents jumped, official data showed yesterday.

The consumer price index rose to 111.6 points compared with 105.3 points in the same month a year earlier, according to data published on the Ministry of National Economy Web site.

The cost of food, beverages and tobacco, which account for about 30 per cent of the index, rose 11.3 per cent in July, on par with its growth in the prior month.

Rents in Oman also rose 8.5 per cent, the Ministry said.
