Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Traffic Department has prepared to distribute iftar packets to the public to avoid a rush during iftar time, said a senior official.

"During Ramadan, there is always heavy traffic 20 minutes before iftar and violations are reported, especially ignoring red lights. We want to stop such a practice", said Major Jamal Al Ameri, Director of Public Relations and Media Department at Abu Dhabi Traffic Department.

"Motorists have a tendency to rush to reach home or the mosque for iftar so they jump red lights which may cause fatal accidents. To avoid this officials from the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department and Abu Dhabi Police will distribute iftar packets as usual more effectively on the roads."

He said since such a facility is available on the road, people should avoid rushing during the iftar.

"The Red Crescent and some petrol pumps like ADNOC are also giving iftar packets to the motorists at various points. So the rush during the iftar is unacceptable."

Major Al Ameri said parking violations during prayers at night (Taraweeh) is another major problem during Ramadan. He advised people to reach the mosque at least 20 minute earlier to avoid problems.
