Did you leave the West and move to the UAE after September 11 2001, seeking a more tolerant atmosphere to bring up your family or as a result of being victimised?

Was your education abroad affected by the aftermath of September 11?

Do you now not travel to the US or the UK as a result of the security measures brought in at airports post September 11?

Being a long-term resident of Dubai and quite accustomed to the peaceful atmosphere out here, it came as an utter shock to see what was had happened in the USA on 11/9. Moreover the company that I worked with at that time was preparing to hold an exhibition showcasing guns, both combat and sporting, and this disaster made us a little apprehensive. But amazingly this calamity had no effect whatsoever, as everyone knew for a fact that Dubai is a country that is safe and secure . Kudos to the image that this fast developing country has earned.

It is not only about our lives, it is about the lives of millions of Iraqis and Afghans that were totally destroyed. These are the main victims of the aftermath.

The horror of September 11 was not the burning skyscrapers and the drama of hijacked planes. It was the complete lack of regard shown for the value of human life and the gross misuse of religion to justify it.

My higher education visa was rejected only because of this incident.

I am an American citizen who first came to the Middle East in 1982. I worked in Riyadh and grew to appreciate the Saudi culture and its people. The result of September 11 is unjustified suspicion and prejudice against Arabs who live in or visit the USA. The event was devastating for both.

9/11 changed the global lifestyle, affecting everyone inside and outside US - Especially people living in the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Though I wasn't directly affected by the 9/11 attacks, I still feel so sorry for all the innocent people who died that day. I got a chance to go and visit the site where the Twin Towers stood. The feelings inside me, I can't express in words. It can only be felt deep inside the heart. How cruel could a person be? One man's stupidity changed more than a million people's lives forever.

My family and I moved here from the UK in July 2005, funnily enough on 7/7. Although I am British, 9/11 triggered an ever-increasing hatred towards Muslims and there is no doubt that, whilst once upon you could live comfortably as a practicing Muslim in the UK, this is becoming more and more difficult and one day this hatred will become more and more violent. Although we were never on the receiving end of any harassment, I wanted my family to live a normal life.
