Washington: Al Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden is reportedly preparing to release a video message to Americans just days before the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Arabic announcement on an Islamist website read: "Soon, God willing, a video tape from the lion Shaikh Osama Bin Laden, God preserve him."
US homeland security officials dismissed the tape as propaganda and said there was "no credible information of an imminent threat".
Terrorist watch group IntelCenter said it expected the video to be released within 72 hours.
Bin Laden has not been seen in a video since October 2004. An audio tape was released in January 2006.
The website also included a photograph of an older-looking Bin Laden, although his beard now looks dark rather than greying.
