Manila: Police in suburban Marikina City rushed to a robbery alert just before midnight on Monday after a wayward cat, which apparently decided to relieve itself at the wrong place and at the wrong time, tripped a bank's burglar alarm.
At around 11am, policemen from the Marikina City Police Station hastily scrambled to respond to an alarm that a burglary is in progress at the Bank of the Philippine Islands branch in Concepcion village.
Lawmen had been dispatched to catch the burglar, a report by the ABS-CBN network said. However, instead of collaring the bandit, a patch of rancid smelling kitty litter greeted the responding policemen.
Policemen were quoted by the report as saying that the cat apparently set off the alarm when it entered the bank through a hole in the roof of the establishment.
Prior to the discovery of the feline's deed, the police had to use a ladder to examine the bank's roof amid suspicion that the establishment had been burgled.
During their inspection, police found a small hole on the roof.
The lawmen became even more suspicious that there had been "forced entry" after peek through the bank's tinted glass doors revealed that the bank's ceiling had collapsed.
