Berlin: Germany on Saturday called on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to explain assertions by his son that six Bulgarian medics were indeed tortured in a Libyan prison.
"The Libyan government and Muammar Gaddafi must say if the accusations of his son Saif Al Islam Gaddafi, which amount to self-incrimination by Libya, correspond to reality," Germany's deputy foreign minister Gernot Erler told the daily Tagesspiegel.
The Libyan leader "must clarify things so that we know who is responsible [for the tortures] and who must answer for them."
Three of the six former prisoners, two nurses and a doctor, testified Friday to a commission in Sofia about "the psychological and physical torture they endured," according to a source close to the commission.
