Dubai: Traffic around Al Seef will be diverted from September for work on trial trenches of the Metro's Green Line.

The diversion will involve adding an extra lane to Al Seef Road as part of the Maktoum Bridge widening plan, said Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Construction, Rail Agency.

Pier positions are being set for the Green Line at areas such as Oud Metha, Health Care City and Jadaff.

Busy routes

As the Green Line is designed to cater to the Central Business Districts of Dubai, it has a more localised route that focuses on two of Dubai's most densely populated areas - Deira and Bur Dubai.

It will run from Al Ittihad Square through Deira and Bur Dubai to BurJuman, through Health Care City to Jadaff in the south, and from Al Ittihad Square towards Qusais II in the north.

Its second phase is making substantial progress, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) said.

Underground station construction is in full swing, and preparatory work for the elevated north section is progressing well and will allow foundation and sub-structure work to commence in late summer.

"At Ghubaiba underground station, the construction of diaphragm wall was completed as scheduled. Al Ras Station diaphragm wall is planned for completion in early September, and Palm Deira diaphragm wall construction has commenced while Baniyas Square Station and Salah Al Din Station is due to start in mid August," said Al Hammadi.

He said at Al Sayidiya, 80 per cent of the utility work is over and traffic diversions will start ahead of the work on the main station box.
