Dubai: Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) being developed in Jebel Ali has granted contracts to install air traffic control systems to two British-based companies.
International Aeradio LLC (IAL), a UAE subsidiary of British engineering group Serco, will provide meteorological systems to JXB, while Park Air Systems has won a Dh21.7 million contract for a very high frequency atmospheric radar.
A DWC spokes-man could not say how much the IAL contract was worth.
The first project will be implemented by March 2008 and the second is scheduled for completion by June.
Aviation hub
Located 40 kilometres from Dubai's present airport, JXB is the main component of the $33-billion Dubai World Central aviation and logistics hub.
It will have a capacity to handle 120-150 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum when completed.
The project is Dubai's efforts to establish itself as a transportation hub and cater to rising trade and tourist traffic. The emirate aims to attract 15 million tourists annually by 2015.
