Dubai: The Ministry of Labour has released the names of companies that have violated the midday break rule across the country, in its effort to name and shame offenders in public.
More than 200 companies which violated the midday break rule across the country since the implementation of the decision on July 1.
The midday break rule stipulates a halt of outdoor work between 12.30pm and 3pm during the months of July and August. Penalties are enforced on companies that do not adhere.
One of the measures taken by the ministry to deter companies from breaking the rule is naming and shaming them. Other penalties enforced are a Dh10,000 fine, downgrading the company and stopping its transaction at the ministry.
The violating companies have to pay some Dh2.2 million in fines, according to the ministry's statistics. Eisa Al Zarouni, deputy head at the investigation unit, said the ministry will not grant exemptions to companies.
"Only seven companies out of the 201 violating companies have so far paid their fines, but companies must understand that no exemption will be granted," he said. The ministry will even be more aggressive in cracking down on violators, he added.
Maher Al Obaid, head of the investigation unit at the ministry, said the companies which have already paid their fines will not be named and shamed.
The investigation unit has executed some 3,500 visits across the country, according to ministry statistics.
