Dubai: The Ministry of Labour and the Egyptian consulate will work together to spread awareness among workers who wish to make use of the amnesty.

Humaid Bin Deemas, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Labour, said that cooperation between the different consulates in Dubai and the ministry can help spread awareness among workers.

The cabinet, in a move to regulate the labour market, had granted a three-month grace period, on June 3, to illegal expatriate workers and their employers to adjust their status.

"We would like to inform illegal workers that the grace period is to help them find solutions and readjust their status in the country or leave," said Bin Deemas.

Ebrahim Hafez, the Egyptian consul general in Dubai, said that they would like to help their workers to make use of the amnesty.

The ministry will provide the consulate with a list of all violating workers registered with them, after which the consulate will work together with the Egyptian club to inform the workers of their rights.

The Ministry of Labour is studying the possibility of having a memorandum of understanding with Egypt on labour.
