Sharjah: Paid parking machines installed in areas around Saqr Bin Khalid Al Qasimi and Estiqlal Street in Sharjah will go operational from July 14.
The machines will operate throughout the week from 8am to 1pm and 5pm to 10pm except on Fridays.
Sharjah Municipality's Freightage and Transportation Department yesterday said that the areas in which the paid parking meters will go operational are Industrial Area 4, Ghubaiba, Yarmouk, Bu Daniq, Al Monakh and Al Mahatta.
Paid parking services will also be operating in areas around Al Estiqlal Street, including Al Mahatta, Bu Daniq, Abu Shagara and Al Nid. Parking fees are set at one dirham for an hour, Dh5 for three hours and Dh12 for 5 hours.
The service aims to provide easy-access parking and smooth out traffic congestion caused by illegally parked vehicles.
Areas in Sharjah where the parking meters already exit are - Al Shuwaihen, Al Shuiokh, Al Musalla, Al Naba'a, Bu Daniq, Umm Taraffa, Industrial Area 1, Al Maraija, Al Ghuwair and Al Majaz.

I am not sure that the parking meters will ease traffic congestion. I have noticed that Sharjah lacks planning in the construction of infrastructure, and so people are forced to park illegally for lack of space. Preema Abu Dhabi,UAE Posted: July 13, 2007, 10:47
Parking meters should not be installed in residential areas. Also, the set of fees does not seem fair. The municipality should just have an hourly charge of Dh1. Amer Sharjah,UAE Posted: July 13, 2007, 07:20
Paid parking meters should be installed in the interior roads of Abu Shagarah where the used cars are blocking the entire road. Also, the paid parking meters in Sharjah do not accept one dirham coins easily. Sometimes you have to try multiple coins to get a ticket. Musthafa Sharjah,UAE Posted: July 13, 2007, 01:50
