Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has issued rules to regulate the licensing, lease and use of jet skis in the emirate.
Shaikh Mohammad issued Law No 7 for 2007 yesterday with the aim of streamlining procedures.
According to the law, no person or corporate body is allowed to practice activities for the licensing, lease and use of jet skis without prior approval from the concerned authority.
Number plates should be registered with the concerned authority and jet skis should be stored in a way that can be easily seen. All those who wish to engage in such activities must obtain the appropriate trade licence issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy.
Status
Owners of unlicensed jet skis must adjust their status in accordance with the new rules. The law sets forth the conditions and procedures for the issuance of the pertinent licence. The jet ski owner should not be under the age of 18, while those who are under the age of 14, should not be allowed to use jet skis without a coach or a companion who is not under 18 years of age.
Jet skis should be driven at least 500 feet away from the beach and must be subject to regular maintenance.
