Sharjah: An illegal worker who was electrocuted during work was not planning to use the amnesty offer, his friends said.
Fuad Abdul Jawad, 44-year-old Egyptian electrician who entered the country on a visit visa, "was scared to turn himself to the immigration authorities due to the fear that he would be banned from entering the country ever again", his friends and colleagues told Gulf News.
Switching jobs
Sharjah Police said Abdul Jawad was electrocuted while working in Sharjah's Al Sajaa area.
"The 44-year-old father of two boys and two girls was not planning to turn himself in and benefit from the amnesty period. He came on a visit visa last year hoping to find a job. He kept on switching jobs. He was disappointed after receiving several false promises hired," said his friend.
Abdul Jawad believed that if he approached the authorities he would be deported and banned from entering the country, said the friend.
"He was electrocuted while fixing some electric wires," said the friend, who preferred to be identified as I.N.
"He was supporting his family back in Egypt. His elder daughter is 17 and his younger child is four," said I.N.
