London: Madeleine McCann's father says how a mystical religious experience inspired him to embark on a publicity campaign to find the four-year-old.
In an extraordinary interview, Gerry and Kate McCann tell of how their Catholic faith has given them strength to keep going in the weeks since Madeleine was abducted.
They also spoke of their "relief" after Portuguese police on Friday called a halt to a major search for the girl's body. The McCanns were told shortly after 10am that the search of scrubland close to their resort of Praia da Luz had failed to find any trace of Madeleine.
Tunnel and light
McCann revealed in the interview that in the first few days he was praying for his daughter in church when he suddenly found himself in a tunnel surrounded by a bright light that indicated he should do all he can to find Madeleine.
