Dubai: A British visitor, who admitted that he forgot 0.07 gram of marijuana in his pocket will spend the next four years behind bars, ruled a court yesterday.

The Dubai Court of First Instance awarded the 25-year-old Briton, W.H., four years in jail followed by deportation. He was found guilty of possessing 0.07 gram of marijuana and two hardly noticeable slivers of hashish intended for personal use, as charged by the Public Prosecution.

The accused had earlier confessed, via a translator, to possessing drugs and denied that he was intending to use them. "I mistakenly forgot them in my pockets," the Briton told the court.

He also accused the public prosecution of bringing false accusations against him in the bill of charges. A customs inspector said, in his statement, W.H. arrived at Dubai International Airport from Bahrain.
