Dubai: Salik tags for the Dubai's road toll system, due to start on July 1, went on sale yesterday.
The tags are available in 287 outlets in Dubai including 180 Emarat petrol stations, 70 Eppco/Enoc stations, and 37 branches of Dubai Islamic Bank.
Motorists using toll gates on Garhoud Bridge and near Mall of the Emirates on Shaikh Zayed, must paste Salik tags on car windscreens.
The welcome kit costs Dh100 including Dh50 fee to open the account and the rest as credit. Motorists will need to give photocopies of their car registration to register and obtain the kit.
Once the toll gates are activated, Dh4 will be deducted from the credit every time a motorist crosses a gate.

RTA has done good Job to control Traffic on Dubai roads. I suggest this toll system should start after the major road constraction is finished and metro service is in place. Otherwise, this will create more congestion on alternative routes.

All Entrance into SZR should have toll gates and exits should not be tolled. I commute between Shj -Jafz daily and use a longer route to reach Jafz. Anyways i wont use Toll Road for daily commuting. Ajoy Sharjah,UAE
Salik should not be activated on weekends and public holidays as this is the only time for families to go on a day out. Joni Dubai,UAE
I do not mind if the RTA wants to start this toll system to reduce traffic jams. But, they should start things like this when the Dubai Metro becomes operational and these ongoing road constructions finish. Ravindra Dubai,UAE
Salik will surely help reduce traffic congestions. I think all the approaching exits to Shaikh Zayed Road from the Garhoud Bridge to the Mall of the Emirates should have the same toll gates. Muhammad Dubai,UAE
Put the toll gate after the Emirates Mall Interchange, in order to give motorists more options in choosing alternative routes, such as the Jumeirah, Al Wasl, Al Khail, Emirates roads. Lito Dubai,UAE
I commute between Sharjah and Jebel Ali every day and this road toll system has been put in place too early, since alternative roads are not ready yet. Ali Dubai,UAE
Is there any online system for SALIK to find out the fines, fines payment, and rechaging? Santosh Dubai,UAE
Toronto's Highway 407 has a toll system in place but the invoice conveniently arrives at the motorist's mailing address. Sal Dubai,UAE
Is there any chance that the RTA could activate Salik only for weekdays? Dubai does not get heavy traffic on the roads during weekends. Harendra Colombo,Sri Lanka
I think they should install the toll gates at the border of Dubai and Abu Dhabi and not within the city. Moc Deira,UAE
Totally not fair at all. We are already crying with expences and additionally this is killing. Ibrahim Dubai,UAE
The e-gate will not solve the traffic congestion problem since it will only create more congestion on alternative routes. Abdul Dubai,UAE
The fee of Dh50 to get a Salik account is unjustified. It should be free of charge. Monowar Abu Dhabi,UAE
Other roads will remain clogged because motorists will probably use exits to pass the toll gate. Abdulmajid Dubai,UAE
The gate should be at Interchange 2 to encourage motorists to use Al Khail road and the new Business Bay Bridge. David Dubai,UAE
What about motorcycles? They do not have a wind screen to put the Salik sticker on display, so where are they supposed to put it? Yo-Yo Abu Dhabi,UAE
