Dubai: While commodities appear to be cheaper in some Dubai stores, a study of prices revealed that a basket of goodies is actually now more expensive than last month.

The recent Ministry of Economy's price list showed that red apples imported from the US now cost Dh5.95 per kilo in Carrefour - Dh2.05 more than a month ago.
Likewise, the same item is sold for Dh4.85 in Union Cooperative Society - 10 fils higher.
The price of Australian white rice (Sun) also went up from Dh5.70 to Dh6.70 per kilo in Carrefour and from Dh5.80 to Dh5.90 in LuLu Centre. Union Cooperative Society, however, slashed the price by a few fils, from Dh6.55 to Dh6.10. LuLu Centre increased the price of eggplant sourced from Oman to Dh1.90 from .75 fils per kilo.
The price of frozen green peas (Green Giant) from Greece went up by a little over Dh1, from Dh4.65 to Dh5.80 in Carrefour and from Dh4.75 to Dh4.90 in LuLu Centre.
At the meat counter, Carrefour jacked up the cost of Saudi Arabian whole frozen chicken from Dh7.65 to Dh8.25 per kilo and Brazilian frozen boneless chicken chest from Dh8.05 to Dh8.90.
However, the same items were consistently priced in LuLu Centre and Union Cooperative Society.
As to which store offered the most number of bargains this week, LuLu Centre topped the competition, offering 25 best deals.
