Dubai: UAE telecom provider du introduced a new payment service yesterday for mobile subscribers, allowing them to pay or recharge their bills via text message using their credit cards.

Offered at no extra cost to customers, the mobile payment service is available for both monthly plan and pay-as-you-go subscribers.

"Our products and services are developed with the convenience of our customers in mind, reminding them that du is always around the corner or, with mobile payments, at their fingertips," said Chief Executive Osman Sultan.

du will accept holders of Visa, MasterCard or Diners Club cards.

Registration will take place through the du website, by calling du's customer service on 135, or by visiting any du store.

The telecom firm is also offering additional options such as automated weekly or monthly payments. Subscribers have the option of paying their own and other's monthly plan bills or recharging pay-as-you-go lines for themselves and friends and family.

The services can be used both in the UAE and while roaming abroad.

Low balance

Pre-paid customers can also opt to recharge their accounts through the mobile service when they reach a low balance. Customers will be notified through an SMS of the low balance and can recharge their line.

The service ensures privacy with a confidential registration option and a passcode chosen and known only by the customer. To authorise any payment from the registered credit card only part of that passcode is provided by the customer. Payment to another du pre- or post-paid line requires registration of the recipients line before the payment is being made.

Mobile payment service in the future will be expanded to allow du customers to pay their utility bills and much more opening an easy and innovative channel of payments while on the move.
