Paris: Leading climate scientists said that global warming is "very likely" man-made, according to a new report on Friday.
There is no stopping global warming and its effects "even if greenhouse gas concentrations were stabilised," according to the 20-page report.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also reported that global warming has made stronger hurricanes, such as Hurricane Katrina, in different parts of the world.
The report also projects rises of 7-23 inches on sea levels by the end of the century, which could theoretically submerge certain parts of the world.
Analysts say that the panel has said its strongest message so far. Hundreds of scientists and representatives of 113 governments make up the panel.
"I hope that policymakers will be quite convinced by this message," said Riibeta Abeta, a delegate whose island nation of Kiribati is threatened by rising seas.
The scientists wrote the report based on years of peer-reviewed research. The panel, created in 1988, releases its assessments every five or six years.
