Dubai: Al Matla'a 2 won the first heat of the traditional rowing race held as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) DSF Sports Activities and organised by the Dubai International Marine Club.

Al Yah, skippered by Saif Khalaf Al Matari, won the second round.

With the Dubai Shopping Festival is in full swing the Dubai International Marine Club Creek was bustling with activity.

A field of 32 traditional boats competed in the first heat of the traditional rowing race as a special DSF event organised by the Dubai International Marine Club.

Besides the show on the water, the property of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi witnessed the road show performers who delighted the crowds that came to cheer the rowers.

Amidst chants of encouragement and patriotism, the boats made their way to the finish buoys at Mina Seyahi from the start line set inside the Palm Island, Jumeirah. Effort, strength, skill and patriotism was at its hilt in the race as the crew in the boats rowed furiously.

Winners Al Matla'a 2, led by Saif Khalaf Al Matri, were followed in second and third places by Al Qadri Group skippered by Yousef Habib Abdullah and Henyam 1 led by Ebrahim Ali Mohammad.

The second round proved more exciting as there was a close fight between Al Yah led by Saif Khalaf Al Matari and Al Zahab 1 skippered by Ahmad Ebrahim Rashid who took first and second places respectively.

Well supported Wadi Wesam 1 came home in third position.
