Dubai: Motorists can expect delays on Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road starting today between the main Al Karama intersection to the Kanoo Travels junction as partial diversions are being set up for the construction of an elevated metro station.
Full diversions will be in place between the Kanoo Travels junction and Sana from October 14.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will soon distribute flyers informing motorists of the extent of the traffic diversion.
To construct the piers for the elevated railway and the station, initial piling work for Al Karama station began on September 30.
The work entails constructing columns deep in the ground to support the railway station.
Al Karama station will be situated in the heart of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, with entrance pods on both sides.
It is the first elevated station on the southern side of the creek and will be one of the five elevated stations on the Red Line, where the concourse and tracks will be elevated.
The station will be built in the middle of the road. It will have a unique design with dramatic curved shell roof, creating a distinctive landmark.
The station will be preceded by the BurJuman underground station where both the Green and Red Lines will meet.
It will be followed by the Al Jafliyah station, which will have the concourse on the ground level, but the tracks will be elevated.
