Islamabad: In a memoir released on Monday, President Pervez Musharraf recounted how he decided it would have been suicidal to confront the United States a day after the terror strike on September 11, 2001.

With the United States demanding Pakistan's help to launch attacks on Al Qaida in Afghanistan, Musharraf recalled how former US Secretary of State Colin Powell had telephoned him with an ultimatum: "You are either with us or against us."

He also wrote that Powell's deputy, Richard Armitage warned Pakistan's lieutenant general that if Pakistan chose the terrorist's side "then we should be prepared to be bombed back to the Stone Age".

Musharraf's autobiography "In the Line of Fire: A Memoir" was due to be released in New York on Monday, but some bookshops in Islamabad were already selling copies.

Musharraf is currently in the United States, promoting his book.

The 368-page book takes its name from the famous Hollywood film starring Clint Eastwood.

It is reportedly ghost written by Musharraf's friend and Pakistani columnist Humayun Gohar and is said to also contain his autobiography.

The hardcover copies of Musharraf's autobiography have been priced at $28.

Publishers have speculated that Musharraf received a six-figure contract for the book in February 2005.

If Parvez Musharraf was not in power till now, Pakistan would have been bombed By America for sure like Afghanistan. Today Pakistan is standing in the position because of Musharraf's Political brain and power. You can see how he convinces even India and manages the US from aggressive hands towards Pakistan.

Gen. Musharraf should not obey every order from America. I would never like Pakistan "state of America". America has its own targets internationaly and is using Pakistan as a friend. Musharraf sould keep it in his mind that when the targets are acheived by America he will be killed, so it's better to think for the best future of independent Pakistan not as "state of America".

I have not read the book, but some abstracts were made public through newspapers. It seems that general has breached his oath of confidentiality by telling about the private life of the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif when he was invited over a dinnner. And he also spoke about the commanders meeting where General Khan has suggested a coup to the then chief. These are very secret and confidential matters. I think he has gone down in recalling his memories.

It is unfortunate that a person, who is occupying a dignified post like President, shamelessly going round for days in a foreign country to promote his book. This is not only draining tax payer's money but also damaging the image of an entire country. Let the good sense prevail upon Pakistani President.

Pakistan is the most unfortunate country in the world. It was created out of a vastly diversified group of communities in the name of promoting liberal Islamic character. Rather it has been taken over by the state employed uniformed U.S. backed dictators, who incidently also claim to be most honest (read dishonest), wisest (read goofs), most educated (read matriclutes) and indispensible leaders of this third world country. And after remaining in power (read absolute power) also they become best selling authors also. History not only repeats itself but it goes on repeating itself over and over again. God bless Pakistan.

It is not the first occasion when a Pakistani military ruler has become a ghost or pseudo writer. In the past General Ayub Khan has also written a book 'Friends not masters'. Ayub's book was written by Altaf Gohar and team of sarkar or paid authors. History is repeating itself. One could imagine what is in this book. Distorted facts, self praise and trying to project himself philosopher and intellectual should be the trait of this book.
