Dubai: Emirates, the biggest customer for the Airbus A380, will not cancel its order for 45 of the superjumbos, a spokesperson for the airline said yesterday. "The issue is out of the question. We never thought about it," the official said. The company is committed to the deal and still depends on the A380 for its expansion. "We will re-schedule our expansion plans according to the delays in deliveries of the superjumbo," the official said. Emirates has not advised Airbus of an intention to cancel its order. Habib Faqeeh, Chairman of Airbus Middle East, told Gulf News the delay in deliveriesis attributed to manufacturing difficulties. "The superjumbo does not have any technical failures or problems." He said deliveries of the aircraft will be made according to the new deadlines set by Airbus.
"We do not expect any new problems that may lead to a further delay in deliveries because the plane is technically and technologically okay, particularly after some amendments were made to its final design. The Airbus A380 has no technical problems in design or operational capacity. Test flights were done successfully with the confirmation of 16 international airlines, which have orders for 159 planes, Faqeeh said. The only problem the plane has experienced is the speed of manufacturing, he added.
