Stamp issued to mark GCC's 25th anniversary
Dubai - Emirates Post has issued a commemorative stamp to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The Dh1 stamp has been issued jointly by GCC postal administrations in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The new stamps are available at all UAE post offices. In addition, souvenir sheets priced at Dh5, First Day Covers of Dh2 each and FDC souvenir sheets of Dh6, are available at Deira Main Post Office, Dubai Central Post Office (Karama) and Abu Dhabi Central Post Office.

Strategies to save dugong population

Abu Dhabi - International dugong experts will meet in Abu Dhabi this week during a three-day symposium aiming to develop strategies that will help maintain a stable and healthy dugong population in the region. The convention, titled "Status and Conservation of Dugongs of the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea and Western Indian Ocean", will list the latest research and conservation efforts to protect the endangered marine mammal. The major cause of dugong deaths is random capture by fishing nets.
