Dubai bank to sponsor award for students Dubai: The Dubai Islamic Bank announced its sponsorship of "HE Minister of Education Award for Total Quality in Student Activities and Welfare", organised by the Ministry of Education to recognise efforts of teachers and schools to encourage students to undertake various activities. This was announced at a press conference held in the presence of Dr Ahmad Al Sharef, Assistant Undersecretary for Student Activities and Welfare, Mohammad Amiri, Senior Vice-President, Branches, Dubai Islamic Bank, and directors of the Student Activity and Welfare Department at the Ministry. Dubai: Tourists to Dubai will now be more informed and better placed to discover the hidden treasures of the emirate's history and culture. Under the patronage of Hussain Lootah, Acting Director-General of the municipality, Sahary Gate opened its new headquarters in Al Bastakiya, a district steeped in history and located beside Dubai creek. The event coincided with the UAE's National Heritage Day, on April 18. Lootah emphasised the importance of Al Bastakiya as an important district of national cultural and historical heritage and a great asset to the tourism essence of Dubai. "This place mirrors the wholesome life of our esteemed forefathers, who laid the foundation for the progress we are witnessing today, through their diligence and hard work," said Lootah. Pay Al Shamil bills through banks Dubai: Customers of Etisalat's Al Shamil internet service will now be able to pay their bills through their bank thanks to the company's eZeePay facility. eCompany, the internet arm of Etisalat, is offering the service to Mashreq Bank and Emirates Bank customers, with other banks set to join soon. Al Shamil customers will be able to pay or query their bills using IVR, ATM or the internet. Officials say the eZeePay service has grown by 650 per cent this year compared to the same period last year. Speeding tops traffic offences Abu Dhabi: The Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi has issued 16,447 tickets in a week. According to the department, an average of 2,350 tickets daily or 98 every hour were issued from April 8 to 14 in Abu Dhabi and its suburbs. Captain Saif Al Dra'ai, Head of Investigation and Fines Section at the department, said speeding with more than 11,000 fines topped the list of violations. Other violations included not using safety belt, wrong parking, hindering traffic flow and using handset phones while driving.
