Excellence award winners to be honoured

Dubai: Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a ceremony will be held on Monday to honour winners of this year's Dubai government excellence programme awards. The number of nominations has already hit a record. Categories of the prestigious award cover areas in administrative work, field work, finance, technical and technological projects, engineering and others. The award is considered an effective means of developing Arab management and upgrading administrative and professional practice in Arab establishments.

Residency section extends work hours

Sharjah: The Sharjah Naturalisation and Residency Department has extended its working hours to 9pm. The move, which is aimed at providing and facilitating better services for clients, is in line with the directives of Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, and under the close follow-up of the Sharjah NRD Director, Dr Abdullah Ali Bin Sahouh. According to Bin Sahouh, the extension of the department's working hours is aimed at facilitating services for clients, particularly those whose working commitments do not allow them to come to the NRD during the morning and afternoon hours.

Cameroon inmate embraces Islam

Dubai: An inmate from Cameroon embraced Islam at Naif police station as a result of good treatment from the police. Winst Bris Rgimo Jo announced his conversion in front of Shaikh Esmail Eisa from the New Muslims Committee at the Dubai Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities. Major Arif Al Shamsi of Naif police station said Winst had made a request to the Social Services Department of the station to embrace Islam as a result of good treatment, care and extensive Islamic programmes offered to the inmates.

Institute holds training programme

Dubai: Dubai Institute for Human Resource Development (DIHRD) organised a two-day training course, 'Employee Satisfaction'. It focused on the importance and methodologies of measuring Employee Satisfaction Levels (ESL) and its impact on the organisational performance. Ahmad Nuseirat, Consultant for the Dubai Government Excellence Programme conducted the course. A number of HR specialists, employee satisfaction specialists and heads of departments participated in the course.

Dubai Police sign pact with IACP

Dubai: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Dubai Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to organise the 14th conference of IACP in Dubai. The MoU was signed by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai police Chief, and Dr Deleep Das, Chairman of IACP. The conference will be held in Dubai between April 8 and 12, 2007, under the banner 'Security and Civilisation'. Das also invited Tamim to attend the upcoming IACP conference, which will be held in May in Turkey.

Archaeological survey planned

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage has unveiled a plan to conduct archaeological and palaeontological surveys in Umm Ashtan area west of Abu Dhabi. According to Mohammad Khalef Al Mazroui, Director-General of the authority, a survey plan has been evolved by the archaeological studies department of AACH. The survey which will run until 2008, will focus on the fossil material in Umm Ashtan, he said in a statement. Al Mazroui added that the launch of the surveys will run concurrently with preparations for an Abu Dhabi natural history exhibition. The date the exhibition is to be set a later date.
