Tehran: Iran has removed seals from some nuclear fuel research facilities, an official said. Mohammad Saeddi, deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, added that work would resume there later on Tuesday. He said the work at the research facilities at the Natanz uranium enrichment plant would be carried out under the supervision of the UN nuclear watchdog. The UN's nuclear watchdog - the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - confirmed that the seals had been broken. The news is sure to spark widespread international condemnation. The United States, which accuses Tehran of seeking to build nuclear weapons, has already hinted that it may refer Iran to the UN Security Council over its action.
Saeedi said Iran had come to an agreement with the IAEA on what work Iran would do but did not elaborate further as to the type of work which would be carried out. Meanwhile, Russia said its offer to enrich uranium jointly with Iran at a site on Russian territory was still on the table. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak, said: "We confirmed our proposal, it remains on the negotiating table, and if our Iranian colleagues are interested we are ready to develop a joint plan to resolve the entire Iranian energy issue."
