Police interrogated their first captured London bombing suspect and arrested nine more men in pre-dawn raids on Thursday, as chilling details emerged of a large-scale terrorist battle plan. Somali-born Yasin Hassan Omar was zapped with a stun gun as police raided his hideout Wednesday in Birmingham, the first major breakthrough in the massive investigation into the July 21 attacks. The 24-year-old is suspected of an attempted suicide attack on a London Underground train near Warren Street station, one of four failed bombings on that day. Police were hoping Omar, who was being questioned at the high-security Paddi-ngton Green station, would provide crucial information about terror cells possibly dormant in Britain.
An hour before dawn yesterday police swooped on two properties in south London and arrested nine men in connection with the investigation into botched attacks, although none was believed to be an bomber. Officers also flooded into the Underground train system, police said. "This is a campaign we are facing ... It does remain possible that those at large will strike again. It does also remain possible that there are other cells that are capable and intent on striking again," Police Commissioner Ian Blair told Londoners. "This is not the B-team, these weren't the amateurs," Blair said of the second group of attackers. "They only made one mistake."
